Athletics have suffered tremendously as a result of the earthquakes.
Fields, athletic clubs, stadiums and other places where children play have been decimated.
Of the 95 athletic fields, 41 are unusable as a result of sink holes and liquefaction. All 48 sports and recreation facilities are closed. The city has lost 2/3’s of its swimming lanes. The primary tennis center and hockey park are likely permanently damaged.
Basketball facilities are now virtually non-existent.
All of the 500 community halls and meeting rooms, used for social, education and recreational activities are currently closed.
